Back in Action

As you can see my speed is back to where it should be but it took a bit of time, ringing, e-mails etc.  As far as I understood when I got broadband with Digiweb I had a download cap of 30 gig per month but it actually works out with a download cap over a 30 day period which is not reset every month which can be annoying but I only went over it once and that was after a year of using the service.

With the speed going down to .13 for around eight days, I won’t be doing that again in a hurry, but this should have been explained clearly on the website with Digiweb that if you go over 30-35 gig or whatever your limit is that your speed will go down to that for the amount of days so people signing up should know.

Any way I am well happy to be back with my speed.

I am currently quite busy with a lot going on in my life, such as creating a website for someone and college work.  Also I just got into DDO.com which is a free online RPG and quite a cool game.

Any way the main reason for this post is to educate people as to the consequences of going over their bandwidth allocation with Digiweb.  A consequence for downloading the game from DDO.com is that it is quite big at 5 gig and I went over my maximum of 30 gig a month by downloading it.  What happened then is that my speed went from 5mb to the following:-

At the moment I actually need the speed to be greater as I have only just begun to create websites for people and I need the upload speed to be much greater (let alone just for browsing).  It has been like this for four days now and is quite ridiculous.  I rang up Digiweb to fix the problem and I was told when it goes under 24 gig the speed will be better but also if I bought another 10 gig a month allowance from them by e-mail this would fix the problem also.  I sent them the e-mail, that was on friday and the problem is still the same.

The conclusion here is don’t go over your bandwidth allocation or your f#@! for about a week.

As a current student in 3rd year I have to pay €30 a week to get to college then lunch, coffee etc.. which all in all I would say comes to €50/€60 in total a week.  Now take into account printing costs, material costs, USB sticks, computers (which are essential for a computing course) and other things on and off the grant comes in very handy.

Now the decision has been made to take not only an 8.5% cut on the Back to education but also a 5% cut to the grant as well because they say that the cost of living has gone down in Ireland.

What I see from my weekly shopping is that the price of living goes up week by week and not down so you gotta ask your self does this really entice people to buy Irish???

A little confused

All of the information that has been gained over the last few months has got a little bit muddled, but as time goes by it becomes that little bit clearer.

Take for example asp.net master pages, now looking at the code of them makes things a little confusing but then when you go through a few tutorials and look at how it is actually done it becomes much clearer. It will take a bit of editing to add my code to the master page but not that much time anyway the documentation is the real work and what I will really have to look at for the good marks because the implementation isn’t till next year.

Any way back to the confusion for now…….

There is now winging about it but it all gets on top of you if you leave the work to long to do.  Even as we have to do independant learning which takes up a lot of free time but can’t be done outside college unless you have the software to do it.

Right now I have to draw up a draft of a Service level agreement so for now see you later.

Now that I have thought about it I should really be posting a bit more so here goes.  I have been doing a few things like I have put Windows 7 Ultimate on my PC but I had to buy a hard drive to put it on.

The reasons for this are simple:

1. I didn’t want to have to remove Vista off my current system as I have everything I wanted on it.

2. I thought it would be easy enough to do a dual boot and have them both run separately from separate drives.

3. I having both a 32 bit and 64 bit operating system available is very useful.

Problems I came across

While I bought a 500 gig sata 2 hard drive, I thought grand this would be easy enough to install, how wrong was I?

I never thought that I would need to buy a sata data cable, which thinking about it should have been obvious so I had power but no data transfer so I got myself one but then had to figure out how to format the drive I mean it showed up on the device manager but I had to go to the disk controllers and give it a letter and name then format it.  It was straight forward from there.

I will give an opinion soon enough of Windows 7 just give me a bit of time to use it but so far so good.

Ill try not to let my blog down in future and do at least one post a week we shall see…….

I havn’t been sitting back doing nothing though, I have been working on maps and stuff for rpg’s.  I won’t post them at the moment as a few of us are creating a world for a rpg and due to copyright and stuff I don’t want it ripped off.  This is the main reason I havn’t posted for a while as there wasn’t much to post about.

I am looking at stuff so that I can learn a bit more about building web sites, I have to look at the flash website builders as they are particularly easy to work with but with smemon.com post about the plugins for wordpress http://www.smemon.com/10-under-rated-wordpress-plugins/ it helps when I need to look at stuff any way anyone any idea’s on what to do next…..

Overall I am satisfied with these results and it brought my overall average to 61.4 which is what I wanted.  Next year ill have to work harder if I am going to achieve the 70% that I am aiming for but sure as is life its only hard when you make it hard.

I could sit here and wine about how I thought I done better in some subjects but what would be the point I aimed for a goal and have to work harder to achieve it.  Now its time to get down to work as far as I am concerned.

Exam Results

The results are out tomorrow and I am looking forward to seeing what I have achived but I am hoping for the overall average to be at least over 60%.

I am good at most subjects and can memorize with a good bit of study.  Next year will be the crucial year to gain the results I want as the first year doesn’t count towards the overall mark just the second and third year.  Any way what do other people expect and we will compare ………

The last few headers on my blog where done through the use of paint and were not really up to scratch so I decided I needed to work on a proper one with my logo incorporated into it so I started using photoshop.

It took a while to get used to using this program again I mean i am ok at editing photo’s with it and buttons for websites and stuff but when it came to using the layers I got a bit lost.

I would say it took about two hours to make this header for my page which incorporates my logo, thats after playing with photoshop for about five hours or so but I have kinda got what I wanted out of it.

Anyone agree, disagree with the work it takes to use photoshop??
